Valencia, CA (Jan. 18, 2013) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, announces the successful installation of its Smart Band® RFID Wristband System, for secure access control, at Huka Entertainment’s Hangout Music Fest and Madison House, partnered with Insomniac Events’, Electric Forest Festival.

Both multi-day music festivals implemented the PDC Smart Band® RFID Wristband System to control access and improve the guest experience. Guests gained entry to the events by walking through RFID-enabled portals that instantly validated each guest’s wristband, equipped with an RFID tag. This helped shorten lines, which was an added convenience to guests, as there wasn’t a need for event staffers to manually check or scan bar code tickets. Guests were also permitted to exit and re-enter the premises, by scanning their wristbands, at each event’s entrance. Additionally, VIP guests were allowed into special designated areas, where RFID-enabled readers controlled access, by validating each guest’s wristband for VIP privileges.

The event planners chose to switch from paper stock tickets to the PDC Smart Band® RFID Wristband System to reduce queuing and crowding, to further brand each event, and to eliminate counterfeiting. Guests were able to spend less time waiting in line, and more time inside the festivals, focused on watching performances and purchasing concessions or merchandise. Both festivals customized their Smart Band® wristbands to include their event names and logos as promotion for their respective event. Both festivals used a woven wristband style, because it is non-transferable, is comfortable to wear for an extended length of time, and is durable enough for guests to save as a keepsake long after each event. Replicating a custom woven wristband would have been difficult on its own, but combined with the RFID technology supporting the system, counterfeiting was eliminated and scalping was minimal, greatly enhancing profit margins.

“There’s definitely been a fast-growing trend as music festival organizers have realized the multiple benefits and possibilities RFID technology brings to the table,” said Robin Barber, vice president of leisure and entertainment for Precision Dynamics. “Beyond access control and counterfeit prevention, social media integration and cashless point-of-sale applications provide an attractive opportunity to boost revenue and take event branding to the next level.”

Since its launch in 2001, PDC’s Smart Band® RFID Wristband System has been used by leading music festivals and venues to deliver unique and convenient applications that help redefine the guest experience, while reaping bottom line benefits to the festivals that use them. Applications include: cashless point-of-sale; cashless arcade and vending; social media integration; keyless hotel and locker access; electronic access control; photo management systems; and customer loyalty programs. Additional PDC RFID Solutions include PDC Smart® Cards, Key Fobs, Lanyards, and Parking Passes.
